8 Cars, 6 Semis in Fatal Pileup Near Limon Last Edited: Monday, 19 Jan 2009, 10:12 PM MST Created: Monday, 19 Jan 2009, 2:48 PM MST The Accident Scene at I-70 near Genoa January 19th 2009 GENOA, Colo. (AP) -- High wind and blowing dust apparently contributed to a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 70 that killed two people and forced authorities to close an 80-mile stretch of the highway. Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Hall says at least eight passenger cars and six tractor-trailer trucks were involved in the Monday afternoon collision near Mile Marker 374 on I-70's westbound lanes. That's near the town of Genoa, about 90 miles southeast of Denver. The Patrol shut down the interstate between Limon and Burlington near the Kansas state line. The Colorado Department of Transportation says the closure is expected to remain in effect until after midnight. Patrol officers are urging motorists to use US Highway 36 to the north and US 287 to the south as alternate routes. KDVR Fox 31 Network Denver Colorado. Copy by: Schaffernews@Deertrailco.net
